Food & Water Watch
It’s a new year, and it’s time to launch the campaign to get Walmart to reject Monsanto’s genetically engineered (GE) sweet corn. GE sweet corn could be planted this spring, but Walmart can refuse to accept it, protecting consumers from this untested and unlabeled product. Can you sign our new petition asking Walmart to reject GE sweet corn?
Why should you ask Walmart to reject Monsanto’s GE sweet corn?
1. Whether you shop at Walmart or not, they are the largest U.S. food retailer, and if they won’t sell GE sweet corn, it’s likely that farmers won’t plant it.
2. GE sweet corn won’t be labeled, so you won’t know what you’re buying.
3. Monsanto’s GE sweet corn hasn’t been tested for human safety, and it contains three different genetically engineered traits that haven’t been used in food eaten directly by people.
Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and General Mills have already agreed not to use GE sweet corn in any of their products, but we need other stores to follow their lead to end the market for this untested produce.
Over the next three months, we’ll be building our campaign to get Walmart to do the right thing, and we’ll need your help every step of the way. From signing petitions to joining in our national days of action, we need you to make this campaign a success.
Sign the petition to Walmart today.

why don’t you ask to ban Syngenta’s GM corn that has been sold for the last 10 years – you are such an idiot to fall for the antiGm lies
Ban all GMO’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t think anyone has previously sold GM corn directly for human consumption. Previously it was incorporated into processed food with the hope that the Bt toxin would not survive the gut. Unfortunately, in a Canadian study 83% of pregnant women and 69% of their umbillical cords contain the toxin. It survives the gut and enters the blood stream. It passes into unborn children. We don’t know what the Bt toxin DNA will do to humans, but it kills animals, causes liver and kidney dysfunction, and infertility. It caused rat testicals to turn blue and their sperm count and DNA to be altered. This is poison. That is why we are in the minority of countries that allow these GM foods.
Please protect the public and your own interests and reputation from this untested and potentially hazardous product. Thank you, Dr. Jack Weber
Do you mean, Dr.Jack, like medical doctors protect us from untested new drugs pushed legally for the pharmaceutical companies, to benefit Doctor’s practices and themselves? Food is genetically engineered to improve growth, longetivity and protect it from disease. Pretty important factors in an overpopulated world. What have you ever protected somebody from?
Yes, protect the public from this hazardous product. Mary Hall RN
Please reject Monsanto’s GE corn as it has not been proven safe for human consumption. Bowing to corporate pressure and being a supplier of unsafe products is foolish in terms of future business as consumer awareness and the desire to be healthier is growing. Walmart would be wise to recognize this and be a leader in protecting consumers by not supporting dangerous products.
Thank you,
Lisa Bland
If Walmart has integrity, it should distance itself from the dangerous and monopolistic Monsanto. Ray Songtree
@ Tony, as far as being idiots for wanting to supply safe foods to our families and grandchildren, it is sad that you don’t. As far as the other corn and all the miscellaneous other items they hide in our foods, just about every forth person I talk to has some auto-immume disorder or fibromyalgia, that was relatively uncommom 10 years ago. I am sure this has nothing to do with all the unknown, unsafe chemicals they are bombarding us with in everything on the grocers’ shelves. We should atleast have knowledge and a choice!
We do have knowledge and many choices. And you should do what intelligent and caring people have for years, research what you eat. Quit buying the chemicals and cook whole foods. Or are you to “busy”? Or can’t stay away from white bread, fast foods, chips, salsa, candy, pancake mix, margarine, coffee creamer…the list is endless. So are the excuses. Do you really think the corn’s gonna go ninja in the night? Why do you suppose this country has such an enormous fat and obese people problems? So many people that don’t want or care to know,or are too lazy to learn. They spend their lives digging their graves with knives, forks and spoons.
Leslie, I do buy whole foods for my family, and none of the crap food you listed. However, when I go to the grocery store, I can’t be sure that the produce I buy has not been irradiated, fumigated with fungicides and pesticides, or genetically modified. There are no regulations on labeling food as GM in this country. I do my best to only buy organic, but that’s hard to do in Michigan during the winter. The last report I read, almost 90% of the corn in this country is GM and 85% of soybeans.
Monsanto’s screwing around with just one crop affects all of the crops down-wind, not to mention the birds, people and animals down-wind. Nobody knows what the GM foods are doing to us, since there hasn’t been any long-term testing yet. But I would say we’re already seeing the effects of it based on the massive increase in cancers in this country. It is up to ALL of us to stop these companies from making this garbage in the first place. So, just sign the petition and shut up already.
Walfart is as crooked as the day is long. I just got a flyer in the mail about yet another lawsuit against Walfart. Seriously crooked.
Round-up drenched corn = Poison
And most unfortunate is that it will contaminate the organic non-GM corn including packaged products made with corn derivatives that I feed my children. Its impossible to get away from corn…
We are all at risk with the proliferation of gmos. It is in everyone’s best interest to demand stores not
carry gmo food, and ask your legislators to ban any further genetically modified food form entering our food source.
GMO corn is about to get worse. Think eating Round-up was toxic? The next GMO in the pipeline is corn and soy genetically modified w/ 2,4-D (a.k.a. AGENT ORANGE) Remember Agent Orange from VIETNAM? Yes, that was made by Monsanto too. This will be a DOW product in conjunction w/ their new Agent Orange herbicide… Enlist. The other new one by Monsanto will be food crossed w/ Dicamba. The weeds have become resistant and Round-up is no longer working. GMO food was created for one reason. IT was not to “save the world”, as is often sadly regurgitated from corporate media, but rather as it is now, to sell us more toxic, petrochemical crap to poison us/food with. The other agenda that seems to be strong is to take over the world food supply, owning already 50% of the worlds seed supply. FOOD is a SOVEREIGN RIGHT! TAKE IT BACK PEOPLE!!!!!
Before you point that “healthy” finger at people that are “to lazy” maybe you should point at the obvious culprit. Those people are not killing themselves knowingly, they’re doing it unknowingly (for the most part)! Monsanto on the other hand, they know they’re killing people (and the ground) and they don’t care, so who should you point your finger at?
